Research from AdMob shows that the third-party app market for iPhone and iPod Touch is 40 x greater than that for Android. The ad firm estimates that Apple apps will bring in $198 million in August alone and $2.4 billion on the year. Those numbers are based on the 26.4 million iPhone owners, 18.6 iPod Touch owners and a $9.49 per person/per month app average. While Android’s pool of owners is much lower at 3 million, owners are also far less likely to purchase apps–just 19 percent have compared to 50 percent for the iPhone and 40 percent for the Touch. The Android average is $8.63 per month. AdMob offers plenty of other numbers, but suffice it

to say, that Apple-based apps are light years ahead of Android apps. Additionally, the research shows that Apple still dominates mobile Internet traffic with a 60 percent piece of the smartphone pie here in the U.S. and a 45 percent slice worldwide.
