The beautiful background images on Bing’s homepage have been one of the primary differentiating factor’s from Google’s search homepage since day one. Although somewhat unrelated to search itself, the images are interactive, provocative, and at least for one day next month, user-created. The Bing Homepage Photo Contest , which asked you to use Bing’s Facebook app to submit your photos for consideration, has officially come to a close and a winner has been crowned. The winning image, which is a breathtaking shot by of Jeremy J. Somers of a lightning strike over Syndey, Australia, will make its debut on Bing’s homepage on August 3: Bing made the announcement and revealed the winner earlier today

on Facebook, where you can also view contest finalists and honorable mentions ranked by total number of votes (all of which are just spectacular). The contest itself was successful by anyone’s definition, with Bing receiving over 10,000 photo submissions. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the nature of Facebook is conducive to sharing, helping Bing accrue more than 13,206 unique photo ratings and 27,743 wall posts. So now that this one’s in the bag, we have to wonder how that Bingle contest is coming along. Reviews: Facebook , Google , bing Tags: bing , Facebook app , homepage contest , microsoft bing
