Microsoft will deliver a long-overdue facelift for its mobile operating system when Windows Mobile 6.5 reaches store shelves on October 6. Don’t expect something that’s in line with the iPhone, because WinMo isn’t that kind of OS. The emphasis here is on productivity, customization and combining work and play. Still, you’ve got to appreciate that 6.5 looks a bit more like a modern smartphone, with a big touch-friendly (but not multi-touch-friendly) menu and the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, a cloud storefront akin to the iPhone’s App Store. Other features include easy synchronization with a PC and an

improved Internet Explorer Mobile browser. No word on which phones will be the first to include WinMo 6.5, but AT&T, Sprint and Verizon are all on board.
