The plain old Zune media player never quite cut the mustard, so now Microsoft’s cutting it loose to make room for the Zune HD . All Zune models, from the 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB SDD players to the 80 GB and 120 GB HDD behemoths, will be phased out once the Zune HD arrives on September 15. The new player is more akin to Apple’s iPod Touch, with a touch screen, Wi-Fi and apps, along with the usual music and video. The Zune HD also features HD Radio and HDMI output, making it

a portable video jukebox of sorts. It sounds like a solid product, so perhaps it has a chance to outlast the classic Zune’s 3-year shelf life.
